DIY Halloween Insect Costumes for XYZ

A normal Halloween costume per child will cost you around P700. I have three kids so that means spending over P2,000 for one day over clothes they probably wouldn't want to wear. I have been trying to delay it, until such time that I have no choice but to buy OR make their costumes. The frugalista in me won the debate and I'm sharing with you how my kids will be trick or treatin' this weekend.

Our company group's theme is "A Bug's Life". I was thinking my kids could either be plants/flowers or insects. Since the event is already on Friday, I have decided to pick the easier ones, so I'm having the twins as bees and Xavier as a spider.

I spent three hours going around SM Department Store and Landmark looking for plain tops I can mess with.  I would suggest you go to Landmark to save time because they have the widest selection and very cheap clothes too!

Here's what I have for the twins:

Stripes Black and Yellow Spaghetti Strap Top - P80.00 each on sale
Yellow Skirt Jumper Style - P130 each on sale
Birkenstock Black Stockings for Babies - P80.00 each
ATTIRE: P290 each

For their accessories, I just need to create antennas and wings then they are good to go!

For the antennas, luckily I have a lot of headbands and I have the comfy ones perfect for infants. I just bought black ribbon and soft furry wires from National Bookstore to cover the headbands.

Black Ribbons at P3/yard. I bought 3 yards to cover two headbands.
I actually don't know what it's called but
the sales lady was able to understand what I was looking for.
This is P20.00 from National Bookstore (Scrap-booking Area)
Antennas - P30 for Two Headbands
For their wings, I decided to create small ones because the twins can't walk yet on their own and I know it will be irritating for them to wear big wings. Also, don't put any glitters, it may look cute but it's just not suitable for babies.

The idea is to mainly use a binder clip so it'll be easy to just clip it on to the dress. Then cover the sides with the black board paper.

Black Board Paper at P45.00/10 sheets.

I printed this as an outline when cutting the board.

Total cost for the twins' Bee Costume - P700! That's 50% savings!

Now, here's what I have for Spidey Xavier. I bought a plain black jacket at Landmark. It was on sale for P200.00 only.

From the remaining black board paper,
I folded them to make it look like spider legs.

Spider costume at P200!

Hopefully he wears his black bonnet and gloves to make it look better. I also plan to print spider eyes and stick them to the bonnet.

Overall I spent about P900.00 for three costumes. What's good is they can still wear the clothes after Halloween.

Now XYZ are ready for the Trick or Treat! See yah!

Catching Up

I know I have been very delinquent in updating this blog - or let's just say very busy with my life now as a mom-of-three. So there, no other excuses but I'll try to make up and post more from now on. I'll try to catch up with so many things I want to share with you.
